[...] I must just point out that while I have focussed on video, veotag also works well with audio. Michael Arrington of TechCrunch recently mentioned that an episode of TalkCrunch, his podcast, was recently given the veotag treatment. This starts to position veotag as a potential competitor to podcast search engine, Podzinger.
Mike

It was interesting to hear all of your thoughts about the future of (small) newspapers. I do not have a newspaper subscription either.

- What do you think about the future of the newspaper business as a whole?
- Will newspapers die and news will just be put online?
- Whatabout possible business models? How will the industry get money out of that?
- Will the quality of articles suffer?

[...] Veotag is doing this as well (we haven’t covered them yet but a few commenters have pointed them out in the past). Today I received an email from Howard Seibel, Veotag’s VP Marketing. He pointed me to this page which is a better version of a TalkCrunch podcast I recorded last week with Om Malik and Robert Scoble. He’s added deep tagging, so listeners can jump right to certain parts of the show. [...]

I don't understand how Om can say that Skype is a braindead user experience expecially compared to Vonage. I don't know what his experience with Skype is but connectiing headphones, headesets, microphones adjusting volume control and installing sofware on your computer is not a brain-dead user experience for making phone calls.

Plugging a regular phone into a box that plugs into your broadband is far simpler and is much closer to a normal phone experience.

[...] So I decided to move the machine. It was time to do it anyway. So now the old desktop is in the new house, I downloaded the weekend’s podcasts, some real good stuff, a few interviews with former President Bill Clinton, a Modern Love podcast from the NY Times, an all-star cast with Scoble, Malik and Arrington. Nice stuff for a walk on a Sunday afternoon. Only one problem. When I plug the iPod into the desktop, the original one, the one it used to like, it now acts like this is a foreign computer! Want to reformat the iPod, the Mac asks? No fucking way Jose. I like the iPod just the way it is, no thanks. But it insists. Sighhhh. [...]

Good to hear you watch the Daily Show Michael! I hope you stay on to watch Colbert Report too!

In regards to breaking news, it's a shame you use a Mac or you could use Touchstone for that. But Marshall already gives me enough hate about our lack of mac version so please don't join in.

Interesting show.

I think you're wrong about "Widgets", and I assume you're mostly talking about WordPress widgets. Do we really need the equivalent of Windows 3.1 for a blog's sidebar? Generally speaking, geeks will delve into code and non-geeks will go with the default themes. Maybe (the afterthought) Wordpress.com needed "widgets" to make that site a little more attractive to the few pseudo-geeks that can't see the benefit of a cpanel-like hosting account.

I was hoping that you would talk more about the algorithms behind Digg and Techmeme. That's the frontier--algorithm vs. algorithm. With so much traffic at stake, you know that the "voting" system will evolve to be very sophisticated. Ask yourself: How will these algorithms interact? How do we react to algorithm changes? Once Digg mobs adapt to the changes, what will be Digg's next move? Algorithms will change without notice, like the P.K. Dick randomizing suit in A Scanner Darkly. And the prize? Traffic, lots of traffic. The best algorithms will be the pride and joy of news aggregators.

"Weird" was a good way to describe Digg. And I agree with Om that it's mostly for geeks and nerds at this point. I think the real issue is that non-geeks don't understand why they should "vote" on news, submit news, etc. No offense, but even Gen-X is too old to "get it". I would guess that most Digg'ers are in the 12-22 y/o age range. I'm 31 and Techmeme feels more my speed. But your continued interest in Digg has me interested in TalkCrunch's Digg-gang hazing ritual.

Askar, are you using QuickTime 7.1.3 then? If so, then issues are still being identified with this version. Can you search on a unique text string in the dialog text you see? I tried on your phrase "buffer overrun" but most of the top hits were about the security fixes:
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22quicktime+7.1.3%22+%22buffer+overrun%22

MacFixIt is collecting issues, and they discuss iTunes transfer difficulties with some internet connections, but the symptoms seem different from what you describe:

The ScobleShow trailer seems to be have some encoding issues I think. My QuickTime (the iTunes7 companion) complained about buffer overrun.

Can you guys please fix this or is it my QuickTime (the new one) having issues?

I know when you 3 get together...you all rock!!! Looking forward to see the video.

TIA.

[...] I wanted to wish CEO Carlos Garcia a successful presentation. I’ve had a sneak screenshots and some time to play with his product Scrapblog and suspect it’s a unique product for a wide audience. It could be a network publishing platform if deployed and positioned correctly. He’s recently launched a blog which will chronicle his journey. A podcast recording of Scoble’s review of Scrapblog is on TalkCrunch (26:16 minutes into the podcast). I know this is cheesy, but DEMO reminds me of that song by Eminem, Lose Yourself. Carlos please hold your spaghetti. [...]

[...] We just posted the next podcast episode at TalkCrunch. This was a joint effort, with Om Malik, Robert Scoble and me talking for an hour on a range of topics, from the startups we’re most excited about to the state of VOIP to the upcoming Yahoo Hack Day. We also wish Om a happy birthday and talk about Robert’s new tv show, Scobleshow.com (it hasn’t launched yet, but you can see the trailer here). [...]
